MTV goes Mobile in Italy

By Heather Timmerman Preview Networks PR and News Comments Off

The MTV iPhone app, aptly called iMTV has launched in the Italian market under the Cinema section, expanding our service within the local market to mobile in addition to online video distribution.

As mentioned in previous posts, MTV expanded service in Europe to additional Preview networks in France, Germany, Netherlands, Spain, and the UK, and we see this move to mobile as a positive trend.  Although watching video on mobile is not as big as watching video online, the numbers forecasted for 2011 point in favor of more consumers becoming smartphone users which means more app usage globally, and opps for MTV to expand their existing iPhone service.

According to comScore’s January 2011 report on US  mobile subscriber market share: “65.8 million people in the U.S. owned smartphones during the three months ending in January 2011, up 8 percent from the preceding three-month period. Google Android captured the #1 ranking among smartphone platforms for the first time in January with 31.2 percent market share.”   Keeping in line with current trends, plans for an Android app are already in the works for MTV Italy.

Like a Rolling Stone

By Heather Timmerman Preview Networks PR and News Comments Off

Rolling Stone magazine gets a new look online and Preview Networks is happy to have lent a hand.  The Italian site, directed by Carlo Antonelli, is divided into five thematic areas with updated graphics and social media features inspired from the American version.

More than just music, the site has invested serious real estate in images and video, interviews and insights, cinema and trailers (provided by Preview Networks), and events focusing on fashion design and art.  Through geo-localization, each user will be constantly updated on the events and the “best place to be” in his or her area selected by Rolling Stone.

According to Marketing Manager Tommaso Vincenzetti, “Greater attention to the layout, with social integration and a great SEO work are the cornerstones around which we built the new version of our website, maintaining journalistic quality and content production that sets us apart.”

I’m sure Bob Dylan would agree.   Check out the Rolling Stone integration here.

MTV does Europe

By Heather Timmerman Preview Networks PR and News Comments Off

Success in Italian market leads to European expansion in video content distribution with MTV.   Preview Networks and MTV have signed a deal to expand their film trailer distribution service to all major European markets including Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, Sweden and the UK.

The future collaboration will provide a centralized system for publishing high quality video for film trailers and extras content including red carpet footage, interviews, and clips for upcoming releases for the MTV At The Movies section of the local country websites.

Preview Networks has been providing movie trailers to MTV Italy’s cinema section since 2008 and we are pleased that they have expanded service and taken advantage of receiving the ready made content, in all local languages.

Create a buzz online

Part of creating a buzz online involves knowing who to talk to and where to go. To maximize your movie marketing assets, make sure your trailer is online everywhere.

There’s the obvious YouTube solution, but then your trailer is only seen by active seekers who have already heard about the movie.  What about the majority of passive surfers on cinema, entertainment and news sites?  And don’t forget social networks!

The internet is perfect to create a buzz but only if you enable it with your message, in as many places as possible.

Broadcast your trailer early

Recent studies by Stradella Road, Dynamic Logic, and our own Movie Lover survey has shown that moviegoers want to see a trailer as soon as the news breaks.  This means getting your trailer broadcasted online as early as possible, and at the absolute latest one month before the movie’s premiere.

The best effect from a viral and branding perspective is achieved when word of mouth has time to spread.

Keep your viewers interested

The internet brings new and interesting ways to market your movies. Involve your audience. Get early reviews on teaser trailers, or keep viewer interest strong with red carpet clips and behind the scenes interviews.

Don’t just stop at the trailer.  Build a story, create a living product, and make the experience interactive.

Use Mobile Apps

The statistics on the use of video on mobile phones gets bigger each time a new report is released, or another smartphone is launched. If you haven’t already done so, make sure your movie trailers go mobile.  If you don’t know how to do that, we can help.

Prepare for the future

According to Research and Markets, “The growth of Web-to-TV video is happening faster than most people expected. By 2014 there will be 57 million US broadband households viewing full-length online video on the TV.”

We have already begun distributing movies via Internet Enabled TV-sets and see this as an important future step to your digital trailer marketing campaign.

It’s all about apps these days and the iBest movie app is all about cinema.   The most popular movie magazine in Italy is now accessible anytime, anywhere, with their new iPhone app.

Best Movie, published by Editoriale Duesse, is the leading monthly movie magazine in Italy with an average certified distribution (circulation) of 160k copies per month. BestMovie.it is the online destination where movie goers can be constantly updated about the cinema world with news, trailers, and previews.

With the addition of the iPhone app to their portfolio, which allows even more insight into the latest movies and gossip, combined with fully loaded social interaction features, iBest is sure to beat download records in Italy.

The app has 5 multimedia sections including a Film & Trailer section which, in collaboration with Preview Networks (the European leader in the distribution of movie trailers on Internet, Mobile and Internet TV) offers movie trailers, synopsis and actor information.  The app also has geolocalisation and GPS capabilities which provides local showtimes wherever you are in Italy.

Editoriale Duesse is also the publisher of the official Box Office Magazine and Chart, and is a very well known and respected publisher in Italy both in the consumer and trade press.

When asked about the impact the new app will have on the Italian movie market, Carlo Maraz Galassi, Country Manager for Preview Networks Italy, had this to say: “The trend is moving to mobile.  Therefore, it just makes sense for movie goers in Italy to have a mobile movie option allowing them to be where the action is at all times.  Editoriale Duesse is proving once more their proficiency in understanding the movie market, both from a consumer and business point of view”.

Finnkino Oy and Preview Networks have engaged in a content partnership that will integrate Preview Networks’ local Finnish movie trailers directly on the Finnkino.fi website.  This partnership is particularly important as Finnkino Oy is Finland’s biggest cinema chain accounting for the majority of cinema screens in Finland.

“To say that Finnkino Oy is a key player in the Finnish theatrical market is truly an understatement, and I am pleased that they have chosen Preview Networks as their trusted partner for trailer sourcing,” says Staffan Norden, Sales Director at Preview Networks.

Finnkino Oy is joining hundreds of other cinemas in Europe, including major names like Cineplex, CineStar and CinemaxX, using Preview Networks as their “single point of content” for theatrical trailers and EPK material.
